6 Ways to keep your community members active and committed

6 Ways to keep your community members active and committed

  • 19-07-2023

Do you find it challenging to keep your community engaged?

Your members aren't involved anymore, and only a handful of people drop in occasionally. I understand it's common, and it often occurs because you don't realize that you're managing a community.

    Smile! I've got you.😉

It's a privilege to bring together people who share the same interests and passions, and it shouldn't be wasted. You need to actively engage them and encourage them to connect with one another, as well as with you.

I'll share with you 6 ways you can get members to engage and be more active in your community than before.

    1. Create regular rituals, whether it's on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis:

Rituals are crucial as they encourage your members to contribute regularly and provide them with a sense of structure. Whenever I manage a new community, I always make sure to inquire about existing rituals and assess their effectiveness. By establishing regular rituals, you'll have a steady stream of content that requires less effort to come up with on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, making it easier to manage your community.

A few ritual ideas you can steal are:
      • Meetups: Get everyone together in an AMA or LIVE regularly (weekly or monthly).
      • Welcome new members: Welcoming every single member will go a long way to make a good first impression.
      • Weekly goals/achievement: At the start of each week, ask your members about their primary goal for the week, and follow up at the end of the week to inquire about their major accomplishment (Note down everyone who shares their goal and then recognize them specifically at the end of the week by asking if they achieved what they had planned). You can also do this on a monthly basis.
    2. Introduce members to each other:

A helpful engagement strategy is to connect new members who share common interests with existing members. Maintain a management system where you record information provided by your members such as their location, interests, and challenges. This will allow you to introduce members in the same industry or living in the same city to one another.

Your community is as strong as the bonds between individual members.
    3. Games:

Don't limit your community to only serious discussions - make space for some fun! You can explore a variety of games that you can play with your members online. If you prefer to keep it relevant to your community's core interests, consider hosting a Q&A session with random questions that cover topics such as life, love, and food. This is a great way to create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere that your members will appreciate.
    4. Highlight members that you want others to emulate:

When a member does something remarkable in the community, take the time to acknowledge and celebrate them. Perhaps they asked a particularly insightful question or have been very helpful to others. Showcasing this member's actions is an effective way to encourage others to follow suit. By featuring them, you communicate to the rest of the community that such efforts are valued and worthy of recognition.

You can even turn it into a ritual and do a member of the week or member of the month.
    5. Ask for feedback on how to make the community better:

Asking for feedback from your community is not only a way to get new ideas but also a great way to increase engagement.

When you ask for feedback, members feel valued and important, and it makes them more invested in the community's success since they've been part of the planning process.

Instead of just asking for general feedback, try asking specific questions like "How can we increase activity in the community?" or "What type of event would you like to attend?" This can lead to more targeted and actionable feedback.
    6. Bring in an expert/influencer for an interview or AMA:

Inviting guests to your community is a fantastic way to infuse it with fresh energy and viewpoints. Rather than being the sole voice, you should engage with your guests.

As you build relationships with your guests, you can also invite individuals that they would be interested in connecting with and host an interview or an "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) session. This demonstrates your dedication to providing your members with a memorable and valuable experience.

    Finally...

Using these tips can create a temporary surge in engagement, but to develop a lasting and highly involved community, you must persist. Consistency is key. When members observe how much you value the community and see you actively participating every day, they are more likely to participate as well.
