5 Essential Tips for Moderating an NFT Community on Discord.

5 Essential Tips for Moderating an NFT Community on Discord.

  • 26-04-2023

Web3 discussions are dominating the internet, particularly on Twitter, and while I don't fully grasp the concept, I am gradually immersing myself in it.

    So what's Web3?
Instead of a Web monopolized by large technology companies, Web3 embraces decentralization and is being built, operated, and owned by its users. Web3 puts power in the hands of individuals rather than corporations. Web3 has become a catch-all term for the vision of a new, better internet. At its core, Web3 uses blockchains, cryptocurrency, and NFTs to give power back to the users in the form of ownership. Check this article for more information.
Many people are currently obsessed with NFTs, cryptocurrency, the metaverse, and more. There's a lot of things happening!

Let's now delve into the lessons.

    1. Create Community Guidelines:

Some proponents of web3 tout anonymity as one of its advantages, though it has both strengths and weaknesses. NFT communities, often hosted on Discord, highly value anonymity, allowing members to be whoever they want without fear of being identified. However, staying anonymous is not a requirement. You can still be true to yourself without fear of judgment, but it's important to remain cautious since not everyone may be as authentic as you are.
    2. Automation is your Ally:

Numbers are crucial to the success of many projects, making server automation essential. Setting up various bots can simplify tasks such as verifying human users, sending automatic reminders, issuing warnings for rule violations, and removing or banning members who break the rules.
    3. Why Engagement is Key?

NFT communities can be highly engaging (you will see a lot of engagement), and for rapidly growing projects, they can also be time-consuming. I had the pleasure of working on a highly engaging project as a community builder and enjoyed the experience. Members were constantly conversing about the project, themselves, and various other topics. The engagement was built into the foundation of the project and created a tight-knit community atmosphere. And as a moderator, being available on your time was important!

The lesson? Expects numbers and as your numbers increase, get more hands.
Bonus tip: Recruit members of your community who are very active to moderate also.
    4. Reward systems is key:

Reward systems are integral to NFT communities as they encourage member engagement. These communities offer rewards such as level upgrades, giveaways, contests, quizzes, and more to incentivize participation. Each action comes with a price tag, creating an environment where members are motivated to contribute to the community's success.
    5. People matter:

For those interested in starting a community on Discord or elsewhere, it's important to recognize that your team plays a crucial role in the community's success. This includes everyone from administrators to managers to moderators, and even those working at the lowest levels. It's essential to ensure that each member of the team understands and shares your vision and values, and is committed to working alongside you to achieve your goals.
I believe there are a lot more lessons and I'll discover them as I continue to walk this path. Trust me I'll keep sharing my discoveries.
